Hayden and Symonds got away with absolute murder early on in their innings in the 2006/07 Melbourne Ashes test. Hoggard in particular was robbed on more than one occasion by the umpire after his inswingers had appeared to of done for Hayden.

...worst possible umpiring decision has to be some big mistake by a third umpire...
How can a third umpire press the wrong button in spite of all the evidences in front of him suggesting otherwise? I can sympathize with the on-field umpires most of the times (except soem obvious cases like teh Bucknor test match)...

I think the rules were changed after that match. Not sure though. Anyway if it was not illegal, I wouldn't put any blame on West Indies players as the umpire had signalled no ball immediately and the batsman just didn't watch him.

Can you believe this ****, George Sharp sure made some total howlers in his career, this one has to be number one- Ponting given out LBW even though he hits the ball straight to ground and it flies quickly to the slips, yet out LBW! Never hit the pad at all!!!! UMPIRING FAIL! Possible Indian cheating? Bribed the umpire maybe? Who really knows, Azharuddin was captain after all.....I'm trying to think of a way to put some Tendulkar fail in to this description, gonna have to come back later after some creative thought.....at least Australia didn't cry to the Aussie cricket board and threaten to go home after such a crap decision, like India in 2008, you just man up and get on with it. I wonder which team was playing in the spirit of the game in this 1998 test match? Yet some Indians have the nerve to call Gilchrist a cheat for appealing against Dravid in Sydney....

I loved his action when I was a kid back then. Had got a name among my friends for imitating bowler's actions and mannerisms back then and Chauhan's action was my trump card.

Indeed that was the rule, and it still is, the umps just didn't know it. Useless. The laws certainly weren't changed after that game, more like the umpires got a LESSON in umpiring from Bob Simpson.

I dunno mate, when Simpson pointed out that they had mis-interpreted the run-out law, Cummerbatch claimed he knew it but that he thought Jones was attempting a run. They were either malicious or incompetant; they knew it and happily sawed Jones off for whatever reason (possibly unrelated but Jones middling absolutely everything at that time) or they didn't and made **** up to save face.

There's no way any sane person would think Jones was attempting a run, unless all they saw was the very last second of Jones scrambling back to his crease, he was almost of the square with his bat under his arm, they must have been blind. The WI team were going for the run out as soon as he was walking off, I cannot believe there wasn't a single person on the field with a hint of common sense and sportsmanship, but it has to be said that Viv Richards was hardly a model of sportsmanship....he was big on intimidating home WI umpires.
