What is the best home XI and visiting XI you have witnessed live - this means you were at the park with a paid ticket - it could have been an FC game, or an international event.

If this thread has been done before then a chance for some fresh answers from the newer members.

To pick a batsman you must have seen them bat and likewise with a bowler.

Home XI

John Wright
B McCullum
Fleming
Crowe
Taylor
Greatbatch
Hadlee
Vettori
Bracewell
Bond
Martin

Visiting XI

1 Tamim
2 Ghambir
3 Border
4 Tendulkar
5 Dravid
6 Azza
7 Botham
8 Dev
9 Healy
10 Johnson
11 Alderman

Unfortunately, I have only been to one cricket match in my life and it was a T20. It was the Edgbaston T20 last year between Pakistan and Australia in which Pakistan won. The best bowler was Gul and the best batsman on the day was Umar Akmal. Therefore I can't really make a comment regarding a best Test XI.

The vast majority of cricket-watching I've done has been in Australia.

Does Strauss-Cook-Trott-Pietersen-Bell-Collingwood-Prior-Bresnan-Swann-Anderson-Tremlett count as my home selection or my away selection?

Can you relax the criteria a little to include watching on TV as well. Unlike Aus, Eng, and NZ in India we don't get many chances to watch Test cricket in our cities. And also given the stadiums were not very spectator friendly there hasn't been a thriving culture of dedicated cricket match watchers at the stadiums who watch most of the games in the season that are played in their cities.

I want to infract the OP for rubbing it in that I have never watched a cricket game live. :(

A bulk of the matches I watched live were first-class matches. Didn't have to pay for my 'ticket' though! :D

The Home team would consist of a few players who never played internationally, but happen to be some of my personal favourites. I am not passing it off as the best possible XI and must not be interpreted in that sense either. Just some guys I'd skip any work to go and watch.

HOME TEAM

1) Gautam Gambhir
2) Wasim Jaffer
3) Rahul Dravid (capt.)
4) Mukund Parmar
5) Cheteshwar Pujara
6) VVS Laxman
7) Irfan Pathan Jr.
8) Dinesh Karthik (wk.)
9) Zaheer Khan
10) Rakesh Patel
11) Murali Karthik

AWAY TEAM

1) Mark Richardson
2) Marcus Trescothick
3) Michael Vaughan (capt.)
4) Damien Martyn
5) Andy Flower
6) Younis Khan
7) Shaun Pollock
8) Mark Boucher (wk.)
9) Jason Gillespie
10) Matthew Hoggard
11) Glenn McGrath

Now that, I would suggest, is a serious battery of fast bowlers, comparable to any attack put out by Clive Lloyd.
