***Official*** South Africa in New Zealand 2012

Greatbatch sounds gutted. I wonder who he was referring to when he was talking about the whole world class thing.

Interesting to note that Nethula, according to the New Zealand Herald, was with Ryder and Bracewell at the hotel after New Zealand's loss in Napier. He was not banned as, not being injured, he was not breaching protocol.

Anyway, almost forgot about the third ODI after all this. Hopefully the weather stays away although that seems unlikely as it's pouring down at the moment.

Given how badly the batting is weakened by Ryder and Brownlie's absence, and given Vettori's piss poor form for ND I wouldn't bother with 4 seamers. That only worked in Hobart because we were playing on a green top, and for some stupid reason it sounds like New Zealand's grounds keepers are busy preparing a sequence of flat batting tracks for the tests. Revert to 6 specialist batsmen, drop ****ling for either young or van wyk (probably the latter based on current form) and play Boult ahead of Southee.

Is also prefer anyone ahead of Guptill. That useless **** couldn't build a test innings to save himself.
4 seamers still worked though. How many more Tests against decent sides do you think New Zealand will win over the next 2-3 years?

Vettori is virtually your best batsman, his bowling is just a bonus. Vettori has a shocking bowling record against South Africa anyway, probably because they're used to the non-spinning bowlers it's the other type they're poor against.

NZ could pick 11 batsmen and they'd still struggle to post respectable scores a lot of the time. In Test cricket bowlers win matches and that's where New Zealand can actually make a significant difference. The extra batsman will probably bat about as well as the extra bowler. The extra seam bowling to maintain the high intensity and knock a side over cheaply is by far New Zealand's most likely route to victory.

Pick your 4 best seamers and fill the rest with your best batsmen (Vettori and a keeper).

Feel like a bit of a South Africa batting first so Auckland weather be good and AB call the toss right.

Scaly is on the money again.

^Agree in the main, certainly agree our batting is looking ****. I would however be tempted to play Nethula (if the pitch is likely to turn), as he one of the few points of difference we have.

Agree 100%.

It's NZ standard operating procedure for the bottom half of the batting order to score more runs than the top half. Playing an extra (non-international standard) batsman won't help.

I live in Mt Eden about 10 minutes (by car) from the ground.

It's sunny atm but there have been two spells of strong and squally weather in the last hour. It pelted down. Metservice forecasts another rain band moving up towards Auckland so until then we might see patches of sun and rain. I'm not what that means for the game. I am pretty certain there will be a delay but I don't know it we will get a game or not. I have tickets for the game too, but I'm not sure if I'll be going yet. We should know better by 1pm or so when the next band is supposed to hit.

Weather is fine right now & although it was pissing down about an hour ago Eden Park is one of the best, if not the very best draining ground in the country so would be surprised if much of the match is affected today. At worst we should get through a reduced over match.

Gutted about the Test squad.

Guptill
McCullum
Williamson
Taylor (c)
-
Vettori
Watling (wk)
Bracewell
Southee
Boult
Martin

There is one massive hole in the team and it's either at 3 or 5 depending on where you bat Williamson, so who do they bring in as cover? Nicol and Ellis. WTF. Nicol isn't the worst bloke to be putting at 3 and probably the best option in the country for the position until Flynn proves himself again. But will he be good enough to push Williamson to 5? No.

Ellis at 5? Talk about nose bleeds, he'd bat 7 if he played so what's the point. Brownlie or Ryder would obviously be the first choice guys for that 5 spot but as they are out I'd have half a dozen guys in there ahead of Ellis and Nicol. Also surprising to see Kruger not getting a call up considering there were some questions about Watling's fitness. Krugs probably deserving a call up on batting merit alone.

Long story short. Where is Franklin????
