Chris Lewis charged with drug smuggling

I honestly do find I struggle to have that much fun in normal-with-a-drink-or-six situations, if I haven't had the normal drink-or-four (at least). I tried it a couple of times a good few years ago, was just like "... not drinking? WTF? Doesn't work".

Some would call that a personality defect, shortage, whatever. Well, I can sort of see why, but I don't think there's much wrong with it myself. Some things just go with a drink.

About the only thing that goes with a drink for me is music and friends. If I don't have both of those two things, I pretty much never drink alcohol. I never go out for one drink; I never have a couple while I'm watching a game of something - unless I've got friends with me and we're having a party \ going out after it.

However, drugs, well - just no. I've always said that the downsides are simply not worth any upside that I might discover if I tried it.

Cigarette goes with a beer or 6 as well.

Please don't pontificate, yes it's bad for you etc, but in a thread where we're extolling the happiness of drug-taking, it isn't out of place.

Yeah, not a few of my mates are the old "social smokers". I don't though - smoking is one thing I vowed when I was about 3 or 4 (I don't remember doing it at that young an age, but Dad - who gave the things up at that sort of time - assured me long ago that I did) that I'd never do and have never broken my vow. Nor am I ever likely to now.

I've never been a fan of cigarettes either, particularly since an unsuccessful thing with a girl (hardly need to say unsuccessful, they all are) a couple of years back who smoked - spent hours on the smoking balcony at the student bar inhaling the stuff and still smelling of it when I got home. Not pleasant memories.

Cannabis ia a waste of money - though it aids my uncle Cyril's arthritis - you're better off with a few beers if you have a strong bladder. If you seriously want a trip then LSD is the way to go...........the moon is thataway .................

'tis about right actually - the judge clearly hated him but anything more than 13 would be getting into the realms of the potentially appealable - assuming he's of good character of course.
Wow, I read 13 and assumed months and I thought "wow, that doesnt seem like long"

Then I read that it was 13 years and then I expressed a different "wow".

That is pretty lengthy.

I'm no expert in the length of sentences HM judiciary hands out, but my initial reaction to 13 years with the recommendation to serve at least half was "that seems a bit stiff", tbh. Feels like Clairmonte has got a celebrity added tariff.

Read through the cricinfo article, and this bit caught my eye:

He admitted smoking pot before and after the day's play - "But never in the breaks - you can't do that" - and his habit was fuelled on a tour of India when he found drugs easy to come by. "A waiter at the team hotel started the whole thing," he said. "There was a market there, near the Gateway of India, where you used to get anything, good African marijuana, everything... it's a great place."
Oh, Colaba Causeway. Best place ever.

I know what you mean yeah, but Class A drug, remember, and a lot of it.
Yeah, hard to be too sympathetic, but the length of the sentence very nearly provoked a slight twinge, especially when that charmer who repeatedly raped and inpregnated his daughters had his sentence reduced yesterday. Still over double what CCL will serve, but does seem deserving of more.
