Tangles

International Vice-Captain
Roy the highest paid coach at the tournament ESPN just said. Wtf. That's comedic if true.

It's dissatisfying to see Roy fail so badly, there was some hope around the team he was building for a little while there.

Super depressing thought is we may be looking at Pardew next.

I've seen a few over the years, and I'd have to say that McManaman's spot on. Maybe the loss to Norway in 1981 is the absolute worst ever, but I'm struggling to think of many others as bad as this.
And it isn't about a lack of respect for today's opponents. It's simply an objective assessment of what we saw tonight, and the complete lack of quality in all departments.
Yeah, as abject as we've been over the years, it's nearly always a big side that bins us

Uruguay/Italy 2014
Italy 2012
Germany 2010
Portugal 04&06
Brazil 02
Argentina 98
Germany 96

In that twenty year period, there's only the Portugal/Romania combo in 00 I've missed, both probably sides with higher expectations than Iceland?

Iceland absolutely deserved the win, no bitterness towards them whatsoever but Jesus I'm in shock.

Not as much shock as I would be though because I watched my team lose at home to Boreham Wood, Dover, Braintree, Macclesfield, Welling, Barrow last season. Kind of used to missing expectations now. Fixtures next week, bring on the week to week disappointment.

Surely not. Apart from any other considerations, of which there are plenty, Palace barely won a game in the league after Christmas.

Unless the FA have been taken in by the xenophobic crap that's all the rage at present, Hodgson's replacement will have to be from elsewhere.

Given he has to deal with the worst media in the world in one of (if not the?) most football rich nations, it's probably fair enough

Furball

Evil Scotsman
A team with Beckham or Gerrard in it wouldn't have been allowed to lose that. Nobody in a white short was prepared to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Hadn't thought about this but it's true, and it must be if Furball is praising Gerrard

Barton laying into Neville is pretty funny, if predictably strong. Gary needs to come back to punditry.
