The Wheel is Forever
Wow...your VM box...
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzThe problem with KP is that his lower points are just too low. A world class player will have highs that are unbelievably good but still be able maintain some kind of consistency in the lows. KP passes the first test comfortably but not the second. He either dominates wholly or plays very badly indeed. The problem also being that when he dominates he is still prone to playing a stupid shot. See the Hauritz wicket at Cardiff as an example. KP should have knocked 150 that day and got himself out on 60.
Social's attempt to re-write history make me laugh though. Warne took 40 wickets at 19 in 05, and Mcgrath, in the matches he played, was awesome. Just have a look on Youtube at some of the shots KP played off Warne, smashing him to all 4 corners and treating him like a part-time pie chucker at time..... and remember at this time there were people saying Warne was the greatest ever.
The stats speak for themselves. He took 40 wickets at 19 in 5 matches whilst on the losing side. Perhaps he didn't rip the ball off the surface like he did in the 90s, but he didn't need to.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Warne is regarded as the greatest leggie of all time because he took 700 odd test wickets and redefined the art NOT simply because he dominated an English lineup for the umpteenth time in his career
Anyone that says the Warne of 2005 (who couldnt bowl a big-spinning leggie with any regularity, wrong'un or flipper) was better than the pre multiple injury version obviously never saw the latter bowl
As for McGrath, he was fit for one friggin test
And yet the former Warne was turned into marmalade when he toured India while the latter performed his best feats in both India and Sri Lanka. Lets get this straight, its not about how much you turn the ball.Anyone that says the Warne of 2005 (who couldnt bowl a big-spinning leggie with any regularity, wrong'un or flipper) was better than the pre multiple injury version obviously never saw the latter bowl

No, in my opinion, hes a better player now than he was in the 90s. Still overrated by the masses but cant take away his greatness.TEC,
you still have the same oponion on Sachin as your sig says?
He bowled a delivery to Trescothick in 2005 that turned about 3 feet. It broke Hawkeye and forced the software to be recalibrated because Hawkeye couldn't handle a delivery that turned that much.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

He'll always be overrated by the masses though. That's the nature of his profile and him being a prodigy. Best not to let that bother you when you view him, and just appreciate him whilst he's still playingNo, in my opinion, hes a better player now than he was in the 90s. Would +1 if this forum had the featureThere is no question about the fact that KP is a special player...will he be a great? Tough to answer. What is great anyways? Winning more games for his country? Scoring tons after tons and piling up runs?
In my view KP is great in his own league and will be missed once retired. Until then enjoy the show.
When did he have his first shoulder and finger operations? And yet the former Warne was turned into marmalade when he toured India while the latter performed his best feats in both India and Sri Lanka. Lets get this straight, its not about how much you turn the ball.
Some people justify KP's standing with reference to Warne and McGrath in 2005 and 2006/7God, Social comes in and it turns to an 'aussie greats' thread.
Or maybe it's because given the rivalry between England and Australia, more importance is placed on a players' Ashes performances. Reverse sweeping Murali for 6 pales into insignificance besides an Ashes winning ton. Some people justify KP's standing with reference to Warne and McGrath in 2005 and 2006/7
Why not make reference to KP hitting reverse-sweep 6s off Murali shortly thereafter?
Because someone would mention the fact that Murali has been massively owned by the Aussies and Indians since then so maybe the achievement is not all that much when taken into perspective of where Murali was in his career
KP is an exceptional player but IMO, he's come up against some of the greats at the right time and will go down as a "coulda, shoulda, woulda" player rather than a great but that also masks the obvious technical and mental weaknesses in his game
Methinks. As a nuetral, Watching an England Cricket match before used to be like watching paint dry but with KP and Swanneh, England are now one of the more exciting teams in the World. Realistically I don't think he will reach the heights the Dravids or the Pontings did, but he will definitely leave a mark on Cricket and Ashes history.
