Honestly that maybe the most pathetic graphic posted here, I have no idea whether either player will be great but stats from embryonic careers means less then any other stats. The year age difference being pretty significant.

Still looking forward to seeing Periera play more. He looked really sharp and skillful pre-season. Of course with a billion midfielders maybe he won't get a game. Martial will probably struggle 1st season. How he and LVG handle that will be important. Sideshow up front by Xmas?

I don't think either player will go onto be great. At least, I don't think Origi will. But the irony is that Origi was known as a talent even before this season and last season. He was basically starting over Lukaku at one point in the World Cup. I remember Origi getting bashed for being in the worst XI but from what I saw of him that season - I started following his games since we bought him and how well I thought he did at the WC - it was a bit unfair, especially considering his age and how bad Lille were. It goes to show the expectations people had of him and at least he was recognised. Martial is really out of nowhere.

I didn't post it to be like "haha, we got Origi for cheaper"; I just think it just puts it in even greater perspective how much of a hail mary this signing seems to be. If it works; United will look amazing because of it. If it doesn't; it's probably the worst signing in EPL history. He basically has to become a Player of the Year level player for the outlay to look reasonable.

There's gonna be huge pressure on this kid. Not just the kid, actually but the club too. If things don't go well until about xmas...boy will they use this ontop of a lot of other stuff to disrupt the club. You really wonder if it was worth it from that perspective as well.

Na, still think Carroll and Torres to Chelsea as well as Veron x2 will take some beating. This lad has huge pressure on him though, if he is a flop the fee won't be paid in full so given the outlay in comparison to other deals of the time I still think Veron and Carroll are worse. As for Torres well that has to be one of the funniest ones ever and it was such a shame it was Chelsea who got stung.

I think Carroll at the least had a notable season in the EPL and you can argue he was young and English which definitely would have inflated his value. We also needed to buy quick because of how Torres left last minute. Torres as well, while on the way down, was still going to Chelsea as one of the best players in the league. I think Veron similarly was bought for the right reasons and there was definitely an argument to be made.

This is the one transfer which is reportedly worth 36m at least and 59m at most (either figure or in between figure being huge) where the player is basically just a punt based on scouting reports. He is a french 19 year old who was a rotated squad player (not that any of this is to demean him, this is just what he was) playing in Ligue 1 (6th best league in Europe by UEFA coefficients).

Financially, United can eat this one even if he is a flop, comfortably. It's the unnecessary pressure it puts on the player and the club that just seems not worth it, at all. Surely they could have just kept Hernandez and bought Martial later when Monaco didn't have as much leverage?

LVG clearly thought Hernandez was not a complete player and he has a thing about that. A specialist goal poacher doesn't fit his system. He could have kept him and used him in the Ole goal substitute role. Not saying it would have worked but it looks like Fellaini will be used that way instead.

So Rooney breaks the record of Charlton to become the leading scorer ever for England in internationals and all the press can do is ask if he is our greatest striker ever. Who cares if he is or not, just appreciate his achievement and congratulate him.

Is Cook the greatest English batsman ever? No, so why this obsession with people at the top not deserving their records.

New contract for De Gea. Probably with a release clause that lets him go to RM for a fair fee next summer, but that's still a massive win for us and total embarrassment for RM.

Haha, yeah. Don't see him staying beyond this year unless RM back out of signing him altogether

I must admit, I'm surprised De Gea has signed a new deal. Given that Madrid were so unwilling to pay what United deemed an unacceptable price this summer, what gives him 100% assurance they'll pay whatever his release clause is next summer? Would've been so much easier if he let his contract run and signed a pre contract with them in January. Unless he's getting a huge wage increase than I don't really see how he benefits.

Or maybe we're all just overrating how much he wants to play for Madrid and is happy to knuckle down at United given the deal fell through.

Edit: Actually I guess United could hold him to ransom and let him rot in the reserves in the 12 months leading up to the Euros, which probably wouldn't do him any good.

Wage increase from 60k to 200k, I believe.

Everyone knows RM will pay up. Politics of the club demands it. This is a massive win for DDG and Utd at their expense.
