So apparently Leicester have bid 20 million for Deeney and Watford have turned it down. Really makes you wonder where the market will go in the UK, nobody needs to sell, and the chances of you losing your Prem place, if you lose key players means it's just not economically sensible to do so.
£20m for him?

Good god, this summer is going to be mad.

Obviously Milan were the choice team, by far and away the best in the world at the time, but as stated earlier, their 3 foreigners were Gullit, Rijkaard and van Basten, there was no room for another huge name overseas player at that point, and I'm not going to venture that Gazza should've muscled one of them out. Likewise Inter had Matthaus, Brehme and Klinsmann - all 3 WC winners (teams liked to have their 3 foreigners from the same nation it seems!)
Comparing modern midfielders and the 'top clubs' wanting them to players like Gazza/Platt et al is unfair, because your Real/Barca of the last 15 years can fill a squad with foreign stars and not worry about the cost, back in 91 that was impossible due to foreigner rules and teams simply did not have the money coming in to do it. I mean, for comparison, Gazza cost £8.5m, only a year earlier Man Utd as an entire club was on the verge of being sold for £10m. Again, to point out that Gazza's transfer was more than Coles record move 5 years later, and it was only Shearer's move to Newcastle that set the bar higher.
That's the point really, the 00s midfielders would be starters for the best teams in the world, they wouldn't have been benchwarmers. People will always look down on the 'golden' generation because they didn't win a Euros or a WC; but at club level they were the cream of the crop. Not for one or a few years, but most of their careers. They weren't just highlights players but guys you'd build your club on.

And the last tidbit regarding cost is misleading as hell. Gazza was bought for a lot of money, if those 00s midfielders were sold in their prime they'd have been bought for near transfer record prices as well. The fact that the 8.5m turned out to be a terrible investment on Gazza also has to count for something.

Just further reinforces how much of a bargain Vardy would be if we could get him.
English fans have become so entrenched on ****ting on their own players (in some cases rightfully), that they seem to be snobbish in getting an English player or even a good non-English EPL player. Liverpool fans were unbearable over Benteke, it was almost like they were willing him to be a failure even when we bought him just because he wasn't a 'star' name or the type of player they wanted. 20m these days is like 10m from 10 years ago, it's nothing for a big club.

And at the end of the day, isn't he the kind of signing Arsenal fans have been wanting? Not a young prospect but someone that has actually delivered and more or less the finished product? I wonder how Wenger will play him because Arsenal aren't the fastest in transition and they'd need to speed up their play to take advantage of Vardy's speed and the space the opposition leave.

What's your opinion on the changes to the Scottish League Challenge Cup, seeing as you've as much chance of winning that.
It's a good dig at GIMP which I can appreciate, but if B teams do become a thing in competitions, non-league will probably be involved, along with this stupid 5 division thing.

We just fear it all naturally, I think.

No idea of the changes

Last time we were in the JPT we made the northern semi mind. High point of the past few years if I'm honest

Our Challenge Cup was the bottom 3 divisions, Premiership clubs can now enter U20 sides and the top 2 teams from the Welsh and Irish leagues will also enter the tournament.

Well for all the talk of the Glasgow bunch heading our way for a 'British' league... What about the idea of a Celtic (as in the ethnicity, not the far superior club) system in football similar to rugby? As someone with no vested interest in the Scottish league, it'd be a boost to the other nations who's domestic leagues don't offer the type of standard their international sides suggest, and might improve football at a local level (unless you're from Swansea or Cardiff), improving the game in general there....

Could certainly understand Furball's dislike, but would be intrigued on his thoughts on a full integration, rather than the washy half arsed cup version mentioned above.
