3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Whatever it takes!!!
Wow.. that was an interesting day. Basically even stevens after 3 days of cricket is a fun place to be. I kinda enjoyed the aggression right at the end there. Sometimes it can go a lil too soft. If this was Shaz-Virat era, I would expect England to lose this test even today itself. But unfortunately, under these new guys I think it just means we will lose the game. :(

The 'AI' will probably be pulling that rule from various amateur competitions which have it as a playing condition. For instance, it's very common in junior cricket. But it's neither in the laws nor is it a playing condition in internationals.
5 on the leg side is often a T20/OD rule. pretty sure you could have 9 on the leg-side as long as 7 of them are in front square (and the bowling isn't deemed negative)

That 'grow some ****ing balls' can get real personal tomorrow

This will extend to when Gill comes out to bat. All the English players are going to constantly be in his ear

Cannot wait. **** that 'spirit of cricket' BS. Sledging makes test cricket entertaining
Until you start talking about team mate dicks and opponent wives.

Since we will only have upto 80 overs on day four, two ideal scenarios for England-

Bat fast, get 350 in 70-75 overs.
Bowl 95+ overs at India.

Bat whole day, get 350.
Bowl 90 overs at India.

2nd new ball will be critical on this pitch, so I doubt England gives any less than 90 overs.
If England are going to bowl 90 overs at India, they'll only be able to bat for another 30-40 minutes at the beginning of day 4.

The ball was changed in England’s innings after 30 overs of poking and prodding around. It’s got nothing to do with any of the factors you’ve stated imo.
Just takes one hard hit to deform it.

The owner himself seems clueless tbf, i watched him ramble on for 5 minutes on Cricinfo and provide no substance.

You have to make rules so that such things are not allowed. Take it out of the umpires hands. A very important part of the rules of any sport involve things that make sure the game flows smoothly, at an acceptable pace, and fairly, with fairness to both the players as well as for the spectators.

If you don’t show up to bat within x period, you’re out without an appeal (so no one gives BS about spirit of the game). Over rates are slow from bowling side, give a huge penalty in runs at end of every session. Batsmen wasting time? Umpires get to add time beyond schedule play (light pending), and if light becomes bad, they get penalized runs from their total.

Three times delay in an innings when the bowler is ready (which were time wasting in view of umpire, so two warnings), and you’re out.
Personally I would not want to see matches won or lost due to runs/wickets from slow over rate penalties. Feels too artificial. Plus it would disproportionately affect games played in hot weather / seamer friendly conditions.

At the moment, we have seen teams miss out on qualifying for the WTC Finals due to accumulated slow over rate penalties. That is a good place to start.

Introducing a between-overs stop clock like the ICC has for ODIs and T20Is would be a good step IMO. A lot of time is wasted in between overs. This introduces an objective measure to ensure both the fielding side and the batters are ready in a timely manner.

It's really hard to stop players from ****ing around if they want to. There are so many tricks. Call for new gloves, call for the groundstaff to fix the runup/popping crease, moan about the ball or sightscreens, feign an injury, ask for a bathroom break, etc. It's been a part of the game for as long as cricket has been played.

Watching in person I was surprised by how often the bowler was ready to go and the batsman was halfway down the pitch gardening or marking out his guard again. Crawley’s bullshit is just the tip of the iceberg. Trying to resolve it entirely by punishing the fielding team isn’t going to work.

Hard hitting and big bats have been around for many years now though. Nothing seems to suggest it’s increased in the last 1 year or so.

England are just producing soft organic cows these days imo. They probably have a skincare routine too. Need to toughen them up. Get them some of those 5 in 1 soap, shampoo, facewash, dishwashing liquid, toilet cleaner washes. Feed them 100% chemicals. No grass.

are you implying having a skincare routine is soft?

Instead of run penalties, let's introduce on field penalties. If you bowl 10 overs short, you start your next innings without gloves for the first 10 overs. If batsman waste time, they have to take their gloves off for an over in the current innings.
Or you could remove a stump or add a stump as it happens. Fielding side not ready to bowl on time in a said over, lose a stump for the next over. Batting side not facing up in time have a stump added.

Lol the time needed to add/remove stumps , fix the stump mic , batsman to change guard due to added/removed stump defeats the whole purpose of saving time. Haven't thought this one through.

Gloves being removed is a safety risk , health and safety should not be compromised for time wasting that's ridiculous.

So you're going to change the game as we know it for this issue , 4 stump cricket matches that's a bold strategy !

There"s always an unimaginative wowser.

Virtual stumps. Increase or decrease the hotbox for hawkeye. It would add cool factor as bowling team appeals for bowled when the stumps have not even been hit.
