A pre-injury Lillee was quick enough...
im interested, applying the same logic, if you had to pick a pakistan xi, would you pick Akhtar over wasim/waqar/imran knowing hes an inferior bowler?
No - Thommo was substantially quicker than akhtar according to reports.

I agree. A pre-injury 1975-76 Jeff Thomson should walk into any ATG Australian team provided that you could reincarnate him from that short period.

However, and here's the problem, that 2-3 year period is no where long enough to qualify Thomo as a 'gold or silver tier' great. He fails because of the brevity of his peak period.

Best combo imo:

Lindwall
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

The more I think about it, the more I agree with your attack. Miller weakens the middle order and as Great as O'Reilly is two leg spinners are not required. Simpson and Chappell could provide any additional bowling required.
Either that or bat Miller at 7.

Yeah sending Miller in anywhere above 7 makes no sense to me... dunno how some people actually placed him at 5 or 6

The main reason Miller would miss out in my XI is because Gilchrist gives me the luxury of selecting a better specialist bowler in place of Miller. In any other world XI, having an awesome bowling allrounder in tje lower order would be an asset, but not here... Gilly has it covered

Miller's a serious contender for a specialist bowling slot without his batting, fielding or captaincy regardless and you've got Bradman and (everyone else has) Gilchrist for enormous depth, so how can you not pick Australia's greatest all-round cricketer? Just doesn't make any sense whatsoever not having him, be it batting at 5 or 7

For me, Warne, McGrath, Lillee and Lindwall were all better than Miller as specialist bowlers... I wouldnt sacrifice any of them to include him, nor would i be willing to sacrifice any of the top 6, as that would weaken the batting considerably... as i said Gilchrist is the one that caused me to exclude Miller... Gilly's a world class batsman who provides much needed depth to the batting, and thus Miller isnt necessary.

Just because he's australia's greatest allrounder(arguably Gilchrist was just as great) doesnt mean i have to weaken my batting to accommodate him

Gilchrist is Australia's greatest allround cricketer, though I wouldn't have a problem with Miller as a specialist bowler.

Among australian fast bowlers thommo shouldn't even be a contender for the first two teams the country can put together. Forget pace; in terms of overall ability the top 11 should be....

McGrath
Lillee
Lindwall
Spofforth
Davidson
Miller
McKenzie
McDermott
Thommo
Reid
Hughes

Thommo was better than the two Macs and you missed out Turner, Johnstone and Gregory.
