Warne/Lillee/O'Reilly/McGrath is a bit of a stinker of a tail by ATG national team standards I reckon. It'd be okay in a regular Test as such but I think it could be blown away by the opposition ATG bowlers. Bit worried about Gilchrist getting stranded given Miller is also in the middle order.

Yeah. I think many people voted in Miller under the proviso that you'd then stack the batting with Bradman, Gilchrist and then Davidson/Lindwall.

I think a lot of people voted for Miller with two spinners in mind too though, and to accommodate both those things you'd have to leave out either McGrath or Lillee (edit: or pick Benaud, which not a single person did). I had no problem leaving Lillee out and I wouldn't be that opposed to leaving McGrath out even though I voted for him, but I don't think either was ever going to seriously happen on CW.

We picked the exact same team as cricinfo, didn't see that happening. Thought any of Simpson, Ponting or Harvey would get in.

I'm really surprised Morris got the nod, tbh. Middle order, keeper and bowlers were basically what I expected though. People wanting a third specialist seamer will always split their votes and therefore get out-numbered by the usually more unified Warne/O'Reilly spin combination. Only three people voted for Grimmett and out of those one of them voted for O'Reilly as well anyway. In terms of team balance votes, three specialist seamers actually won out 11-9, with several people selling out their own team balance wants by not voting for Davo.

Think people are slightly overrating Tiger, myself. Good as he was he wasn't even necessarily the best leggie in the actual test sides he played in. In the 15 tests they played together Grimmett took more wickets at fewer runs each.

Anyway,

Davidson
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

Kills me to omit a chap who both modelled his action on Lol and kicked goals for St George, but Davo's left-handedness just gets him over the line.

No votes for Hugh Trumble either. Would have been a a good contrast to Warne (leg-break/off break), and wasn't a bad bat either.

I made two posts already about it but Thomson was the fastest bowler the world has seen. And he had reasonable control. He should have gotten more than two votes.

I don't think many people rate him above Lillee, Lindwall, Davidson and McGrath.

He could be pretty erratic.

Fast and good aren't the same thing. He wasn't anywhere near as good as the other candidates.
I think his speed could have complimented some of the other skills on show in the attack and made the attack more diverse and able to adapt to different situations.

Best combo imo:

Lindwall
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

A pre-injury Lillee was quick enough...
im interested, applying the same logic, if you had to pick a pakistan xi, would you pick Akhtar over wasim/waqar/imran knowing hes an inferior bowler?
