I don't think the honours board prides itself on being a "who's who" of cricket, it's really there so we can look through the figures and get all dreamy and nostalgic about the great test performances at Lord's. It's a loss for Lord's in that the ground has never been lucky enough to witness a Sachin century, which I think is what Bhogle was getting at, but it's hardly a loss for the honours board. It's all part of the charm. It's entertaining to hear the tour guides talk about the great batsmen never to have made it and the prank-batsmen who did.
My girlfriend used to work in events at the MCG, and they have an honours board exactly the same as Lords, and I know for a fact the old MCC members who lead the tours take pride in being able to say Bradman's, Trumper's, Tendulkar's etc name being on the board. I know this because I've had a lengthy discussion with them about it.

Geoffrey Boycott during the lunch show : Sachin maybe a great batsman but he has never been on the Lord's honors boards !!!!!

Harsha Bhogle : So whose loss is it more, Sachin's or the honors board's ??
Honors Board's.Truly. :)

Considering the tour guides at Lord's reckon that Sachin will have his portrait up in the MCC Member's Long Room at some stage after he retires (only foreign players up there right now are Bradman and Miller), I think its fair to say that Lord's and the MCC wishes Sachin was on the honour board.

Benchy speaking some truth in this thread too. The nationalistic posting has been absolutely dire, and I've been pretty happy to be traveling and going to the tests this series, because I've avoided some of the ****. Not enticing me to come on CW at all.

Not sure I like the "elder statesman" Benchy. Seems a perversion of the natural order of things.

FWIW, as has been observed elsewhere, Sachin is in good company. Lords' honours board similarly lacking Ponting, Lara, Gilchrist, Murali & Warne.

The test championship is in 2013,probably in England?

Maybe India will get to the final and he will be around till then.

Shane Warne's portrait is there, isn't it? It was a few years back iirc.

Just read this thread it's depressing, just saw Benchmark made the only credible post in it, even more depressing. WTF has happened to cricketweb?

Yeah I think this is right. I did the Lord's tour a few years back and the guide was noting how certain great players weren't on the Boards there too.

On a slightly different note, going to the different grounds and seeing the tributes to the various players is fantastic, be they the honour boards, statues or whatever. An example being the SCG Members' Bar having Bradman's name from the old scoreboard up above the doorway.

Stuff like that really sets a tone in the place.

Yeah, at the 'G they have a fake scoreboard, if you will, highlighting some of the great performances there. I like that it's not necessarily the usual suspects; Sarfraz's haul, Cowper's triple century, etc.

In a way it's win/win for Lords; Sachin not being there is arguably more noteworthy. Could def see it getting a mention on future guided tours.

Lords is Sachin's "Hollies's googly" IMHO.

Nah the Lord's tour guide said that Warne's portrait will never be in the Long Room because of his antics. I'm just going on the tour guide of course so whether it was actually there or not I'm not sure, but it definitely wasn't when I took the tour.

Yeah, I was there a week or two ago, and it wasn't up there, didn't see one at all of him actually. I'm sure that it was up there at some stage, although whether it was in the Long Room or that other room where the tour starts off, I don't know. Sure it was in the Long Room at some stage.

The tour guide seemed pretty certain that Warne would not have his portrait in that room for a reason, but maybe it was taken away at some point? My hunch is that his portrait is/was in the museum, not the Member's Long Room.

Isn't that scoreboard there to just show the best figures/highest score at the ground? If someone surpasses that total/figures they'll have to take their name down and replace them.
