The Stanford Facts

A disappointed Ken Gordon, president of the WICB has spoken out about the circumstances leading up to the cancellation of the Stanford 20/20 Super series.

The tournament, which was to be funded by billionaire Allen Stanford was cancelled because a convenient date could not be found.

Gordon vehemently denied the claim that the WICB “did not seriously attempt to facilitate the Stanford 20/20 Super Series”.

The Stanford organisers, who had hoped to play the matches from 10-12 of November were frustrated when they were told that these previously ‘open’ dates would now conflict with the West Indies tour of Pakistan.

Once the clash of dates had been confirmed, ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed then gave permission for Gordon to approach the PCB, with a view to resolving the clash.

Unfortunately the PCB decided to stick with their original schedule. After hearing of this Laurie-Ann Holding of tournament organiser Kelly Holding Ltd announced the cancellation of the US$5 million Super Series.
