Coaching

Welcome to the Cricket Web coaching section. In this section, we’ll be providing a basic technical analysis of the four major aspects of cricket – batting, bowling, fielding and tactics first looking at the basic principles behind the disciplines, then taking a closer look at the finer points of the different areas within each aspect.

We’ve tried to keep technical jargon down to an absolute minimum, and wherever we do begin the venture into the realms of science, we’ve included as many simplified, small-scale, real-life examples as we can to try to de-mystify some concepts that can make a huge difference to a player’s game. We’ve also tried to make it as easy to read as possible – but there are some places where we haven’t managed to avoid long words – any feedback is much appreciated, if you feel that somewhere in particular is too difficult to read, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

When reading this, or any coaching guide for any sport, it’s important to remember that there’s no quick fix that can be applied to every player with the same effect – some things just won’t work at all for some people, and will work brilliantly for others. If you give something a try, and find that it’s not working for you, then don’t worry about it – there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do something. Some International cricketers, like Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul or Paul ‘frog-in-a-blender’ Adams have some of the strangest techniques!
