Sarwan: WI starting to gel

West Indies vice-captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan believes his team is beginning to gel, and it is being reflected in the results column. Attention was drawn to the West Indies team’s series wins over Zimbabwe and India earlier this year, in a sequence that featured ten wins in eleven one day international results (two washouts).

As the side prepares for the DLF Cup, which starts tomorrow with a game against world champions Australia, the West Indies draw on the inspiration of 4-1 series win their last time out. More so, the victory came against India, who will compete against the West Indies and Australia for the DLF Cup.

Sarwan said that the team needs to build upon the win over India and urged that the same core players be persisted with to ensure success.

He affirmed that the selectors have been trying to arrive at this core group of players in hope of serving as a base for success at next month’s Champions Trophy and then next year’s World Cup in the Caribbean.

Sarwan admitted that the conditions may play a factor in the upcoming series, but insisted that the West Indies must play positive cricket regardless.

Sarwan is one of the leading batsmen in ODI cricket, averaging 46.82 to top the West Indies.
