White to lead PM’s XI

Cameron White will lead a strong Prime Minister’s XI against Sri Lanka in Canberra next Wednesday. The squad contains four players with international experience and will be a tough test for the Sri Lankans, who return to Australia for the Commonwealth Bank series.

White has not represented Australia since February of last year. The allrounder has scored 157 runs at 22.42 and taken 4 wickets at 50.25 in 16 one-day internationals. He was overlooked for the World Cup, but will now look to force his way back into the team with a strong performance.

His deputy and fellow Victorian David Hussey will also be hoping to impress. While his brother Mike is a fixture in the Australia squad, Hussey is yet to get an opportunity at international level.

Fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus returns to the frame of selection, having played his only ODI against New Zealand in January of last year. Joining him in the bowling attack is Ashley Noffke, who made his Twenty20 debut against New Zealand last year. In the same match, left-handed batsman Luke Pomersbach also debuted.

“This year’s side has a good mix of experience and youth to take on what will possibly be a full strength Sri Lankan team,” said chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch. “Players are always excited about being selected to play in the PM’s XI and will be keen to perform well against the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuria, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga.”
