Recalls for Ontong and M. Morkel

Spinning allrounder Justin Ontong and fast bowler Morne Morkel have been recalled by South Africa for the one-day international series against West Indies.

Ontong, 28, has not played for South Africa since 2005 and has a total of 21 ODI caps to date. His modest averages of 8.90 and 44 with bat and ball respectively have meant that he has been in and out of the team. But Ontong gets a chance to prove his worth as a replacement for Herschelle Gibbs, who has opted out of the first match for personal reasons.

Morkel, a genuinely quick bowler, has been out of the game with a foot injury that forced him to return from Pakistan early at the tail-end of last year. Charl Langeveldt is expected to undergo a fitness test as he damaged his foot in a recent domestic match.

South Africa play West Indies in a Twenty20 match on Friday before kicking off the five-match ODI series on Sunday. The series will the last at international level for Shaun Pollock, who announced his retirement during the recently-concluded third Test match.

South Africa ODI and Twenty20 squad:
Graeme Smith (captain), Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Justin Ontong, Mark Boucher, Shaun Pollock, Albie Morkel, Johan Botha, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Charl Langeveldt.
