Ramdin among Windies 13

The WICB has invited a squad of 13 players to tour Sri Lanka, representing the region. In what is unofficially the touring party, still awaiting the players’ agreement, Denesh Ramdin is the outstanding name.

The 19-year-old has been picked as the replacement for Courtney Browne, who was recalled to the Test team as vice-captain against South Africa and Pakistan earlier this year.

The uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman is very accomplished at youth level cricket, but poses an average of just 25.8 in 13 First Class matches.

Disputes between WIPA and the WICB ensure that no agreement as pertaining to Match/Tour contracts has been reached as yet. The deadline for the contracts to be signed is June 21st. Two players from the upcoming ‘A’ team tour of Sri Lanka are due to be added to the squad, bringing the complement to 15.

The West Indies is due to leave for Sri Lanka on July 1st and will play 2 Tests and a Tri-nations series involving the hosts and India.

West Indies 13-man squad:
IDR Bradshaw, DJJ Bravo, S Chanderpaul, PT Collins, CD Collymore, FH Edwards, CH Gayle, WW Hinds, BC Lara, DB Powell, D Ramdin, RR Sarwan, DS Smith, two players from West Indies ‘A’.
