Raina out; Powar in for 2nd ODI

Offspinning allrounder Ramesh Powar has been called to India’s squad for the second one-day international against the West Indies. He replaces Suresh Raina in the squad. Fast bowler Sreesanth is also expected to be rested, as Joginder Sharma is tipped to play.

Also missing out are Robin Uthappa and Rudra Pratap Singh. The Indian captain, Rahul Dravid noted that the pitch for the second ODI is expected to be slow and spin-friendly. He commented, “We think that Powar could be useful on this track.”

Ganguly assured that Sourav Ganguly, who did not field in the first match on Sunday, is fit and will play tomorrow.

India won the first game in a close affair, defending a score of 338-3 by a margin of 14 runs. And now the West Indies look to bounce back in the series despite injury worries of their own. Captain Brian Lara and allrounder Dwayne Bravo could miss the game. Lara has been suffering from knee pain, whilst Bravo collided with umpire Suresh Shastri during the course of fielding in the first match. He has not yet fully recovered.
