Pietersen given green light

England will be thanking their lucky stars today with Kevin Pietersen declared fit to play on the eve of the final Test against India at The Oval.

Pietersen missed a net session earlier in the week after coming down with a high temperature. However, he has trained since then and will be fit to play, according to captain Michael Vaughan.

“He’s fine. He had a virus and it was a bit more of a concern on Wednesday but he seems to have pulled through pretty well. He didn’t take part in the more physical side of the fielding drills but he’s had a long bat and says he’s fine,” Vaughan said in a pre-match interview.
