Monty and Ash in the same XI?

In what would be a completely unprecedented move, England are considering playing not one but TWO spinners in their line-up for the upcoming Ashes series.

Such a decision would surely be a calculated risk, given the abundance of left-handers in the Australian batting order.

Ashley Giles, while unspectacular, was until recently considered a vital cog in the England set-up. However, his unfortunate injury led to the emergence of Monty Panesar, and such was his success that there was serious doubt over whether Giles would be able to reclaim his place.

Not only did Panesar have no trouble adjusting to international cricket, he also developed something of a cult following among England’s fans. It seems, however, that there could be room for both of them in the England line-up.

Speaking about the two, Flintoff said “Monty’s obviously a favourite with the public and Ashley Giles has been a great performer for England over the past few years. He’s looking very fit, he’s bowling again and it’s looking good.”

Should Giles be included in the line-up for the first Test, it will be a year since he played his last international, the second Test against Pakistan last November.
