Malik controversy deepens

Pakistan allrounder Shoaib Malik may yet face an international ban, after deliberately conceding a domestic Twenty20 match.

Malik allegedly deliberately lost the match, against the Karachi Zebras, in protest of an earlier match against Lahore, in which Malik’s team had been penalised for slow over-rates. A meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday recommended that Malik be punished under clauses 2.9 and 2.11 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which could result in him missing some or all of Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies.

Malik had already been fined Rs10,000 [USD$170 approx.] by the PCB, but is likely to be fined his entire match fee in addition to that amount. Moreover, Malik faces a likely ban of either one Test Match or two One-Day Internationals. Nonetheless, Malik was made available for selection for the West Indies tour, and was selected on Saturday. If Malik does play, his next ODI will be his 100th.
