Rudolph stars in draw

A double-century from South African batsman Jacques Rudolph was the highlight as South Africa’s tour match against the Western Australian XI ended in a draw. Rudolph scored more than half of his side’s total, hitting 201 not out as the South Africans declared at 395/9.

WA paceman Mattew Petrie had earlier reduced South Africa to 220/8, taking four wickets including Gibbs and Boucher for ducks. Resistance came from an unlikely source as Andre Nel scored 64, putting on 175 for the ninth wicket and allowing Rudolph to get to his double-ton.

In their second innings WA reached 64/1 before the close of play, with Sean Pollock taking the only wicket to fall. South Africa take on Australia in the First Test at Perth starting on Saturday.
