Jones heads to India early

England bowler Simon Jones, injured for the Pakistan tour, will head to India earlier than his team-mates.

The Glamorgan seamer will travel to India with England’s bowling coach, Troy Cooley, and will work with Dennis Lillee at the fast bowling camp in Madras.

He attended England’s academy in Loughborough in an effort to gain a place on tour of Pakistan tour, but was unsuccessful. He is now recovering from surgery on his troublesome ankle, and is bowling at around 80% of his usual speed.

Should Jones be fit, it will be a huge boost for England on the Indian pitches. Jones already has experience in Indian conditions, from England A’s tour in 2004 and his reverse swing could prove a real handful for India’s batsmen.
