Gilchrist rested; Haddin in

Following a disastrous performance in Australia’s VB Series defeat to South Africa, Adam Gilchrist has been rested for two matches and charged with dissent. Gilchrist was bowled by Pollock with the first ball of the match, argued with an umpire, dropped a catch, and allowed four crucial byes.

The charge stemmed from an incident in the 26th over of the South African chase, when Gilchrist urged umpire Aleem Dar strongly to refer a decision to the third umpire. He has been charged with a level one offence. Amidst a patch of disciplinary issues, Gilchrist joins Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee as the other Australians to be face the Match Referee within the last two weeks.

Replacing the Australian vice-captain is New South Wales wicketkeeper, Brad Haddin. He will compete against South Africa in Melbourne on Friday, and Sri Lanka in Sydney on Sunday.

Haddin has played 11 One Day Internationals and scored 158 runs in 9 innings at a paltry average of 17.55.
