Cricket 2005 - Hints & Tips

  • When batting in one dayers, don’t go full steam ahead because of the restrictions, in most of the matches I have played (two full county seasons) my highest one day score is 413-2 and I got two centuries because my players were full of confidence. My first 14/15 overs go for about 75 runs, then when they are full of confidence there is no ground big enough. – Suggested by Daniel Garner.
  • When you are bowling, bowl lots of different types of balls. This confuses the batsman more and you get more dismissals! Yorkers are not very good because they always hit me for a six. (get the different deliveries from the bowling menu before you start to bowl – Suggested by Ben Tucker.
  • Use the ‘o’ button on the ps2 version of the game all the time. I don’t worry about my players batting confidence. I just go to the legside of the wicketsz and use the 6 hit button with ‘o’. I do this just before the bowler releases the ball. This has great results, my highest 20 over ODI score is 533/2 with India.
  • For easy wickets on easy level – Use right arm medium bowlers (e.g. Collingwood) and bowl as short a delivery as possible just left of the offside stump with no pace at all. This delivery just rolls along the groud and the batsmen can’t play it. My best bowling figures are 0-10. – Suggested by Chris

  • When you are bowling, come around the wicket with a fast bowler. Pitch the ball just in front of the batsmens foot. Then put a fielder out straight, and at mid on. Get the bowling meter high, and, in one dayers, the batsmen will either miss completely or hit it straight to mid on or the fielder straight. – Suggested by Lewis
  • When bowling against tailenders use a spin bowler and bowl a full toss. The lower order batters usually go for a big hit and miss the ball which easily mops up the innings. – Suggested by Ash Bryan
  • I tend to bowl five deliveries across the batsmen which he will leave or hit to mid off. I then follow it up with a straight ball and it bowls them nine times out of 10! – Suggested by Chris Winn
  • When bowling to opening batsmen bowl a short pitched slower ball and you’ll get the AI batsmen out most of the time – Suggested by Alex Lara
  • One way to bowl a team out in quick succession (one day matches) is to bowl on the leg side of a batsmen. Put the ball on leg stump and as full as possible as slow as possible. The batsman will go for a hook/pull type shot, but will get bowled or lbw. – Suggested by Chris Barclay
  • When you get the chance to use the ‘slow ball’ bowl it just before half way and a touch to the left, bowl it to full power. Just about everytime I get the batter bowled with this. Practise it in the nets – Suggested by Aaron Hetherington
  • When you’ra batting in a test match, walk to the offside of the wickets and stand so your just fully exposing them, then when you play your shot, always use the right directional button for a right hander, and vica versa, then nearly every ball they bowl (apart from bouncers), you will most likely hit for six to the legside. Good luck. – Suggested by Mitchell
  • In test matches and first class matches the fielding team will change the field depending on the type of bowler and the number of runs the batter has got. I find it easier to just get 1’s and 2’s until the batter reaches about 35. The fielders will then surround the wicket with one fielder on the off side. Then, whenever the bowler pitches it slightly short, you can play a shot to the leg side off the back foot (Y on xbox, triangle on PS2). The shot will uselly go over the fielders or go through the fielders legs. This will get you loads of 4’s and 6’s. (When your batter reaches about 75, the fielders will push to the boundrie and stop you getting many runs. When this happens, just go for 1’s and 2’s) – Suggested by Andrew Mackin
  • In an unlimited overs match, get as many boundaries as possible without playing too aggresively, when your batter’s confidence is about 4 bars full, spend about 5 or 6 overs playing loads of defencive shots, but coming out of the crease when you do (B on xbox, O on PS2). This will get your batters confidence up loads. Do this untill the confidence is full, then watch as your batter gets boundary after boundary – Suggested by Andrew Mackin
  • When bowling in a one dayer, use a straight delivery and pitch the ball just between the batsman’s feet and the middle/leg stump. 9 times out of 10 the CPU batsman will play a hook and miss getting out lbw. – Suggested by James
  • When bowling in a test match, just use two leg spinners. Keep bowling yorkers (from the off side), changing the pace, and the batsman won’t score runs but he’ll soon make a mistake. This works on the first 6 batsmen but just bowl full tosses to finish off the tail enders. – Suggested by Dan
  • When bowling in both test matches and one dayers, try doing an leg-cutter just outside off stump – sometimes the batsman will not play it but when he does, there’s a high chance he’ll edge it straight to the wicket-keeper. When i played with Hampshire and bowled with mascharanes, off 2 overs he edged 3 to the wicket-keeper – but what may happen as with me, the wicket-keeper may drop it. Good luck! – Suggested by Alza
  • Create your own batsmen and give him full stats. When batting against spinners, on the medium length bowls, advance from the wicket (doing a six hit) and hit it straight or slightly legside. You will almost always hit it for six. I got 200 runs with one batsman doing this. – Suggested by Red
  • When you are bowling to a left hand batsman select a fast bowler like Shoaib Akhtar and bowl an outswinging delivery with no pace. Aim the delievery in the area of off-stump and where the wicket and ground intersect each other and you will always bowl the batsman out. – Suggested by Ali Raza
  • When bowling in a one dayer use a fast bowler (Shoiab Akhtar) and pitch the ball in front of the batsman’s legs swinging into him (right hander) and the wickets will tumble down. – Suggested by Hamzah Akhtar
  • When playing England in an ODI or Test when Flintoff is batting bring on a leg spin bowler and bowl slow and press (O). If you pitch the ball far outside offstump Flintoff will miss the ball and you should bowl him. – Suggested by Shifty
  • When batting, play any ball along the ground to a fielder. When the fielder is just about to pick it up, press start. and the ball will reappear behind him and wil go to the boundary, if you hit it fast enough. This can also be used if you are about to be caught. Keep pressing start again and again, and it will go straight through them. When bowling, use this to bowl a full toss, normally with a spinner. Keep pressing start then resume as quickly as possible from the moment he lets it go, and clean bowl the batsman. Best Cheat Ever! – Suggested by Ben Jackson
  • When bowling in Tests, bowl just on the left side of the umpires head with a fast or medium fast bowler. Try and make it as fast as possible. Keep doing this for a while and eventually you’ll find the outside edge of the bat. With Spinners just keep bowling and eventually the ball will spin off in the air but make sure you have fielders around the bat. Good Luck! – Suggested by Jamie Einchcomb
  • When bowling in a Test match, bring in at least two fielders next to the crease and bowl a spin bowler. Bowl any spinning delivery just in front of the batsmen’s feet and he will try to defend it and it should go to the fielder – Suggested by Alza
  • Just for fun, if you put on auto field and pick up the ball you can run round and bump the square leg umpire to the boundary. Also if you run up behind the umpire(not square leg) and throw the ball to the bowlers end he will have superhuman reflexes and dodge it. – Suggested by champ of world
  • If playing against weaker opposition bowl full tosses straight at the stumps. Batsmen find these harder to hit and consequently get out, although some times they hit it for six. – Suggested by Sam
  • When bowling in a one day match, bowl full and staight at the wicket. Bowl it right at the wickets and add swing (whether left or right). Most of the time, the batsmen will get bowled or lbw! – Suggested by Brett
  • When bowling in a one day match, bowl full and staight at the wicket. Bowl it right at the wickets and add swing (whether left or right). Most of the time, the batsmen will get bowled or lbw! – Suggested by Brett
  • I win every hard level match by bowling out opponents below 40 runs in 50 overs matches. The trick is use medium pacers like Sourav Ganguly and bowl almost short pitched or medium pitch balls straight but dead slow and batsmen will get bowled. This way I have figures like 10 overs for 9 or 10 wickets. This works in every pitch except hard ones where the batsmen can cut the ball easily. – Suggested by Satish
  • When bowling against anyone use a right arm medium bowler and when you get a special ball use the r2 button and aim just left of the umpires head at full pace. – Suggested by Ryan Gillingham
  • In a ODI in the last 10/15 overs bowl full tosses with a Fast Medium bowler on different lines it often works and my best figures are 7 wickets for 0 runs – Suggested by Oliver
  • In ODIs, use a medium/fast or fast bowler like Harmison and bowl it just infront of the Off Stump (for right handers) and put outswing on the ball by pressing “O” and put no pace on it. You will usually bowl the batsmen out or get an LBW decision. My best figures are 3-10! – Suggested by minichindle
  • In one day internationals to take easy wickets bowl legcutters wide of the stumps but pitched quite full and usually the batsman will try to hit a six over extra cover so when you start leave the original field setting on and you should get them all out for about 55 runs. – Suggested by maximum
  • Put fielders on the boundary and then just bowl slightly off the stumps on either side, the batter will try to go for a four or six and will often be caught. – Suggested by Troy
  • Getting right handed batsman out in one dayers is easy. Just bowl around the wicket with a right handed bowler with an in swinger and pitch it just infront of his feet and just a bit to the right and you’ll dismiss him. – Suggested by Ant
  • When bowling in one dayers bowl the ball so the dot is around the umpires neck and bowl outswing then usually you either get the batsman lbw or bowled. But if your unlucky and just miss the wickets the wicket keeper normally misses it and the other team normally get a single. My best figures are 0-10! – Suggested by Sam

  • In one-day games, position a fielder straight on the boundary rope and use fast or fast-medium bowlers to bowl full tosses pitched at the base of the stumps. This gets a wicket about every two balls and concedes almost no runs in between. This works less successfully with spinners or medium pacers, and does not work in unlimited overs games. – Suggested by Vex
  • When bowling to right handers in Tests bowl a leg spinner really slowly, pitch the ball quite full and well outside the batsman’s leg stump and spin it two to the left. He will play a straight drive, miss and get bowled. – Suggested by trudagate
  • If you are struggling for runs and you get to two hundred which isnt a good score if you press start and go to quit it will say are you shaw press no do this 3 times then do it once more and say yes it will not quit the game just will add 200 runs only works on test matches – Suggested by Steve Smith.
  • When batting if the ball is pitched with no swing (against pace bowlers) move into the line of the ball, aim the shot down legside and use the slog button (L1 on Ps2, not sure for xbox). The first ball was an edge that went to the boundary for four, you may edge and sometimes get caught but not a lot of the time. – Suggested by Cameron-Moss.
  • When batting line ball up with the heel and use six hit button and advance button and try to hit it over mid wicket. It has a 50% chance of success, you may miss time it and get caught at mid wicket. This is for the Xbox version – Suggested by David.
