Ultimate pace secrets

Manee

Cricketer Of The Year
Do you think you could coach some more pace into Patel? I was very impressed with him in the IPL. Its not often that you see an Indian who can swing it and with such an excellent action outside of past or present Indian players. Also, if you don't mind, I'm curious what happened to this English bowler you posted some videos of a little while back. He bowled with a style similar to Shoaib Akhtar in the late 1990s and looked pretty fast. There was a clip of him bowling to Ravi Bopara in the nets, I believe.

I am working with Harshal Patel via Haryana CA. He has the drills and is working on his action. I am confident his speed will start to climb but doing the drills is up to him.

You are referring to Shahbaz Choudhry. He has some personal issues and has taken time away from cricket. I haven't seen Shahbaz for more than a year but I believe he is starting to play again.

International Coach
Bought The Fast Bowler's Bible a while back, it's actually a damn good book. Points out a lot of **** which should be obvious but many coaches clearly don't have a clue about. For instance the classic "get your front arm higher". You're predominantly trying to "push" the ball towards the batsmen, not slam it downwards at the pitch. Reaching way above eye level is a massive energy waste, the front arm should be thought of as a "reach and pull" outward-then-down action rather than a big up and down swing.

But yeah, a shame the Atul Sharma business has somewhat dented his credibility. Seems to know his stuff.
