The best minnow basher of this decade

Who has hurt teams like Zimbabwe, Bangladesh most in this decade and before consistently?

Sachin's record against Zim and Bangladesh:

Who is the 'best minnow basher' playing international cricket now in your opinion?:p

Sachin's a good shout, never fails to score against weaker teams. Which is completely, 100% a good thing, and it's funny how "minnow basher" is supposed to be an insult.

Sehwag is not that good when playing weaker teams. He scores runs against top teams in the world. Unless you count Pakistan as a weak team - which they are not.

What about Jacques Kallis?
Plays incredibly well against weak teams. Does'nt look for quick runs and does'nt throw his wicket away in the process.

Really has to be Kallis or Vettori IMO. Murali's really racked up the figures with the ball but Kallis and Vettori have done it with both.

Kallis - 817 runs @ 136.16; 31 wickets @ 14.06
Vettori - 512 runs @ 58.44; 58 wickets @ 15.18

Murali as bowler and Sanga as batsman must be causing sleepless nights to all these minnows.

His overall average is barely acceptable as it is, remove minnows and it slides down to 30.

Amazing stats for both (well all three if you include Murali) though at least Kallis and Murali have the excuse of being all time greats who are also magnificent against just about everyone else too, while even Vettori has had a highly distinguished Test career.

In terms of cashing in above one's weight to the point over statistical hyper-inflation though, Pathan must surely take some beating. His 4 Tests against Zim/Bang have produced an astonishing 39 wickets at 11. His other 25 Tests against everybody else have yielded just 61 wickets at 45.

It is only natural that teams who play Bangladesh the most (India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) will have players with the highest numer of runs against them. It may be worthwhile looking at players who havent played too many tests but scored heavily when they did.

Against Bangladesh
  • Steve Waugh (2 innings) scores of 100 not out and 156 not out.
  • Lehmann (2 innings) scores of 110 and 177
  • Hussey (3 innings) 242 runs at 80.7

Against Zimbabwe
  • Steve Waugh (3 inning) 151 not out, 78 and 61.
  • Hayden (3 innings) 501 runs at 250.5

I have just looked at Australia. I am sure one can find more. From these figures, Steve Waugh is the ultimate murderer of modest bowling.
  • 100no
  • 156no
  • 151no
  • 78
  • 61

I'd actually forgotten just how heavily SR Waugh had cashed in on the few occasions he faced those teams. Makes the same kind of sense as Kallis really - a solid, remorseless accumulator of runs who rarely tried anything particularly risky and never gave his wicket away.
