The Battle of the Englishmen

Hutton, a great, and if it hadn't been for a war injury, could of been even greater.

Botham - because Hutton played in (and captained) a very good side. They would have won almost as many matches without him. Botham carried the side many times. But Hutton's appointment as England's first professional captain was a landmark moment.

The Beefster. Won games with bat, ball, force of personality, etc. Safe pair of hands. Born in the North, too.

Hutton, despite being a frenchman, comes close, though, because his son didn't play for Wigan.

Hutton as he managed to maintain his status as a world class player for two decades in spite of a war injury, and Botham really did decline dramatically after just 10 years or so of international cricket.

Yes, his bowling declined dramatically. He really should have played as a batsman from about 1986 onwards. But we needed an all-rounder at 6 to balance the side, and the likes of Pringle and Capel weren't up to it.

Botham both great players but Botham could score a hundred or take ten wickets on any day. Incredible record for an allrounder - 14 centuries and 4 ten wicket matches.

Tough choice, both deserve to go through but will go for Beefy as at his best he achieved the seemingly impossible. Legend.

Hutton v Botham: sudden death

24 hours are up & the scores are.....7-7! :-O

The next vote (from someone who hasn't already voted) will be the decider. If no one votes in an hour I'll exercise my judgement.

SKD to the rescue. Beef triumphs 8-7 after extra time. FWIW I'd have voted the same way. :)
