Are we saving Jimmy Anderson for the new ball or what??
Would have been utterly pointless bowling him this morning. Cook needs to learn to manage Anderson better and other bowlers in the attack need to learn to step up and take responsibility so that our fielding tactics evolve from "let's give Jimmeh the ball." He's got a 5 Test Ashes series to get through this summer, and we saw 2 years ago what happens when you bowl him into the ground.

Poor Stuart Broad. Has a Test match 160 and not only gets reduced to bowling short filth to a No. 11 but also gets ramped over the cordon by him for four.

He bowled 13 overs yesterday.

So, 88 (70), 144/5 to 350 and people are criticising Ronchi for getting out? Seriously?

Only difference between this and Stokes at Lords is that Stokes got an additional 13 runs and the opener went on to a huge ton. Ronchi's innings could yet be match winning. "Oh but he should have been more circumspect." Rubbish.

Craig showing the first test was not an indicator of his ability with the bat. Hope he does the same with the ball.
His inconsistent bowling is ok with me so long as he can be a test quality number 8 with the bat. If he is going to be a bunny with the bat then he had better take his bowling to a new level. I realise I am not addressing your point - I just wanted to talk about Craig.

And we're less than 10 days off a Test where he bowled 43 overs.

Not bowling him this morning was absolutely the correct decision; particularly as Anderson IMO is still suspect when people are properly going after him.

There is a middle ground ffs. Nobody is saying he shouldn't have attacked but maybe don't whack it down then fielder's throat when the trap is set. There's a big margin between attacking everything and stone walling. Nobody is asking for the latter but all he'd have had to do was put away one shot for a period
