Apart from retired Croft.
Keedy has an FC fifty which makes him no worse than any of the three seamers presently picked.BoyBrumby said:Probably Gary Keedy of Lancs (SLA), but he's a bit of a bunny so is unlikely to ever find favour with Big Dunc. Same deal with Jason Brown at Northants (off spin), although Brown hasn't had a great year so far. Both must be into their 30s too, so hardly the future.
I guess Graeme Swann is probably the next in line. For me he's a better spinner than Batty (the official no 2) & at least as good a batter.
yea fletcher seems to like doing that when we go to the sub-continent but its more likelt he will go for that 2-2 split in India rather than Pakistan.Neil Pickup said:Keedy has an FC fifty which makes him no worse than any of the three seamers presently picked.
If we were go with a 2-2-Fred split in India & Pakistan this winter, we would omit Jones or Hoggard (Hoggard I'd guess, reversing etc) and then would could afford another non-batsman.
In all honesty, they're probably not much worse than what we have to choose from here, outside of MacGill and Warne.social said:When you read that list, it's easy to understand how Giles is no. 1 choice.
What a bunch of pie-throwers!

Hmm, we can't be having this sort of talk going on.vic_orthdox said:In all honesty, they're probably not much worse than what we have to choose from here, outside of MacGill and Warne.
Strangely enough, I agree with you - the last world-class spinner we had was probably Deadly Underwood. Then again, you have a thing in Australia called 'summer' which lasts for much of the year - and we have a thing called 'April', after which it all goes downhill.social said:When you read that list, it's easy to understand how Giles is no. 1 choice.

If there is one specialism where age should be firmly ignored it is spin bowling IMO, especially finger spin bowling. Of course fast bowlers benefit from experience but unless they're Courteney Walsh the experience is usually more than countered by loss of pace, injuries etc.Probably Gary Keedy of Lancs (SLA), but he's a bit of a bunny so is unlikely to ever find favour with Big Dunc. Sounds about right. Now that the CC is up & running again, I would imagine the likes of Batty, Swann, Keedy & maybe even Dawson are playing for the 2nd spinner's place, which isn't an encouraging thought.Neil Pickup said:If we were go with a 2-2-Fred split in India & Pakistan this winter, we would omit Jones or Hoggard (Hoggard I'd guess, reversing etc) and then would could afford another non-batsman.
Apart from Warnie and Mcgill none of the aussie badspinners are any better. Giles isn't as bad as people say.social said:When you read that list, it's easy to understand how Giles is no. 1 choice.
