Laker. What's the context behind the Paynter knock?
He had a sore throat. Tonsilitis iirc. the same tonsilitis millions of people go to work with each and every day. Whoopee.

Being a soft-**** Pom he had to go to hospital, when pretty much every Australian batsman in history would simply have waited patiently with the pads on for their time to bat, with no fuss at all.

He made 80 odd I think.

Being English, 80-odd with a sore throat is enough to make you an all time legend.

Laker. I get a sore throat pretty much every ****ing day, so Paynter isn't as good as it seems.

MF of a draw; going with Paynter's innings as he's coping a pasting. Fuelled by brandy and raw eggs if memory serves. Gutsy little ****er.

Bradman struggled to 28 when he edged a ball to Jack Ikin who took it shoulder high at second slip. When he stayed put, the umpire reprieved him. The England captain, Wally Hammond then muttered the immortal line. Bradman went on to score 187, win the Test and the series.

With his side staring down the two-bore barrel of defeat to the imperial master, needing to defend a total of 85 runs, Fred Spofforth boldly announced to his teammates, "this thing can be done" before taking 7/44, including the last 4 wickets for 2 runs. Winning the game for Australia.
