Australian Discussion (Final Squad Announced Post #82)

How can you enforce "only a bowler replaces a bowler".

There is no strict and official definition saying what someone is. Can India argue Yuvraj is a bowler? Can Bangladesh argue Ashraful is a bowler?

I just said it because i heard these two things. Otherwise i'm happy for Australia that Micheal Hussey is back, i think he is there best batsman against spin.

Nannes should not be there IMO

Siddle is a better all-round cricketer and is in form

Hopes is different but also in form

Nannes gives you one thing (left arm pace) that we already have plus we dont know where he is in terms of form or fitness

Nannes is a far better one day bowler than Siddle. Even despite being "in form" Siddle's performances in domestic one day cricket have been average.

Good calls in ignoring Siddle and bringing back Hussey.

Australia's now gonna be very hard to beat you'd think.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm far more comfortable that Nannes has been sent to India over Siddle.

Ryobi Cup:

Siddle - 4 wickets @ 43.5
Nannes - 16 wickets @ 26.93

Siddle is terrible in the format. Always has been and should never have been given the chance at the start of the summer.

Sad indictment on the last couple of years when the decision to take Hussey to the WC now is being lauded as a great decision when it really was the only decision.

Would love to see one of the superfluous squad members like Paine or Ferguson take one for the team and get Nannes out there for real.

A seam attack of him, Lee, Tait & Johnson would be dreamy time for lovers of pace.

Hastings is a trundler. Nannes is brown underpants quick and in very good OD form.
Hastings should play against Kenya or Canada and succumb to a "non-descript strain"...

Siddle is a dead-set slot machine and would be carted over there.

If, and it's a big if, we get up in two WCs in a row on largely flat decks by relying heavily on quicks, I wonder will it start a quiet revolution in thinking about ODI tourneys.

All the while keeping in mind teams must play to their strengths.

That's a pretty huge "if". Krezja is nowhere near the quality of Hogggyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!

I don't know that he needs to be, though.
Our whole attack though is worse.

Lee is not as good as McGrath
Tait is a world cup specialist it seems
Krezja is not as good as Hogg
Johnson is not as good as Bracken (but is possibly better in Indian conditions).

Similarly our batting is much worse.

Watson might be as good as Hayden, maybe.
Haddin is not as good as Gilchrist
07 Ponting > 11 Ponting
White is not as good as Symonds
Clarke should hopefully be as good as himself
Smith should be better than 07 Watson
Hussey should be better this WC

Basically other than Watson, all of the replacements are worse than the guy's they're replacing. I still think that we're in with a shot, but it's likely we'll fail at chasing down a huge total at least once this tournament - and probably in a key game.

I don't disagree with you mate, but I don't see too many teams that haven't got their own problems either. It's a very, very even WC.

07 Watson was awesome. Especially in the WC.

Yeah was about to say this, the man was brilliant in the WC in 07. Had limited opportunities with the bat (in terms of balls faced), but iirc scored 150-odd runs for once dismissed in 6 innings at well over a run-a-ball.
