Whatever it takes!!!
I would suggest batting Sobers at 4 simply because you gotta let someone that good bat longer and it also gives you nice right-left balance in the batting order on paper. Otherwise, very solid side. Well done. :p

Thanks. Ya he'll be kind of a floater I guess - will come at 4 if the second wicket falls after 20 overs or so.

I don't have a problem with participants commenting on the selections made by others but I don't think it is good to comment on players that are yet to be selected. This may influence selections. Just a thought. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Who was this guy yet to be selected?

Amla? Wasn't it pretty obvious I was going to select him as it was my turn then?

This is totally fair too tbh. But I always thought Anwar was only second to Tendulkar in popular perception before Rohit/Amla/Warner showed up.
Ya I'd have Anwar over Hayden and Ganguly any day. Some West Indian openers from previous decades had quite good pedigree too btw, and MWaugh from that 1996 WC.

was torn between Amla and Matthews FTR. Just felt the added dimensions that Matthews brings to the table and being a good vc for MSD meant he was the better package at this point of the draft.

Mathews would become an awesome ODI player if he had half a working knee.

Was just thinking about Sobers and where he would ideally play. I think we can rule out no. 3, which requires a slightly different skill set. 6 is a bit too low, which leaves us with 4, 5, and the opening slots.

I think he can definitely play at 5, i.e., potentially come in late and smash it, or come in slightly earlier, rotate the strike, and smash it later. He's also quite a nice fit at 4 as he'd face more deliveries that way. But if it was really up to me, I'd treat him like Jayasuriya: send him out there and go after the bowling. Also considering it's possible to pair him up with Gilchrist, why bother with Amla? I'd send out Sobers and Gilchrist and smash everyone!

Play Sobers at 4 I'd say. #5 ane #6 are somewhat of specialist roles and we can't tell if he would have been successful given he only played 1 ODI. Most good test batsmen had little problem succeeding at 4, even likes of Kallis who was not quickest scorer and much more suited to test cricket.
