Trouble in the English camp : Pietersen Vs Moores!?

Forget IPL

Depends if he wants a test career or the money, I guess. He could sign as a local for one of the SA franchises, get IPL clearance from the SA board with his value increased as he'd be available for the whole tournament & then even sign for Hants or another county as an overseas player.

In four years he'd only be 32, so it might not even be the end of his test career; he could conceivably have another five years at the top once he'd done his residence for SA. Doubtless he's burnt a few bridges yarp-side, but genius writes its own rules, as they say.
No way Kevin's gonna play in IPL, if he has antagonized ECB.

If Pietersen doesn't sign his central contract, on what grounds can the ECB refuse a NOC for him to play a full season in the IPL?
I think there is something about recently retired players having to have special dispensation from the IPL to play within two years of international retirement (which is effectively what KP would be doing). Gilchrist for example had to have his playing okayed. I think this is to stop people just retiring to play, as the IPL doesn't want a load of 'former internationals' which would be a lot less marketable.

And on that note... I wonder, does this affect KP's value?

Don't think this'll have too much impact on the Ashes being this far out.
Yup that's true to some extent, but all these recent incidents do reflect the fact that English camp really isn't in great shape atm, and whoever the next English captain is going to be, would have a tough job on his hands to turn things around by the Ashes.

Anyways its going to interesting to see who the next English captain would be, Strauss seems to be the front-runner, but considering the fact Strauss is no certainty in the ODI or T20 format of the game, would he be the right choice?

Yes, definitely. We need a cool head, and someone who is respected, with all the mess. It's not as if our current ODI openers have been good anyway. We can fit him somewhere in our ODI lineup fine, especially with Flintoff in balancing the side.

SA are in a better position than England to turn down players they don't like. Just say the SA middle order in four years looks like this: Amla, Prince, De Villiers, Duminy. Which of those players do you tell to shift to make room for the prodigal son?

It's a long time ahead to predict, of course. But would KP really want to take a chance on not only South African forgiveness, but on the careers of one of those quality players ballsing up to the extent that he'd get a look in, not to even consider the possibility of another quality batsman emerging in that time? He'd be throwing his toys out of the pram if he did.

Seems like he's already done that

It's a bit like in South Park where Cartman pulls his pants down and tells the teacher to kiss his ass while his friends just stand there looking at him.

Love Cartman and KP would probably love his mum

If he's registered as a local in South Africa it wouldn't matter if he curled out a stool on Hugh Morriss's desk as a parting gift. It'd be the SA board's call.

Pietersen's a superior player to any of them for me, but it might not even be an issue. He could just fly the South African flag of convenience to play IPL if money was his primary concern. & if it isn't, I'd say it's top two or three concerns at worst...

I'm not quite as pessimistic as others about this, I honestly do not think that Pietersen will stop playing for England, their are obviously going to be tensions but I am sure that he wants to play the ashes next summer and will be suprised if he doesnt,

Secondaly Moores was quite obviously doing a pretty poor job, he was not popular with either captain and I think its fair to say that he had to go. I will admit that I supported Pietersen's apointment as captain, yes it was a gamble but I felt it was a bold move that was worth the gamble especially considering he was the only candidate worthy of both test and ODI selection.

I assume Strauss will now become captain and he will do a decent job (no idea about the ODI side though) what English now need to do is find a new top quality coach to lead them forward.

Assuming a continuation of the quota policy, he can't take the place of Duminy, Amla or Prince.

You dont get the point

SA board might get him and register. However IPL authorities simply won't allow him to play in the league. It's not a given that BCCI are amazed by Kevin's starpower.

Pietersen's better than any of them, but i'd rather have all of them in my team if i were South Africa.

If the ECB don't want KP in the IPL, no qualification technicality will make the BCCI let him in. And four years down the line, aged 32, he'll be a bit of a forgotten man. Staying with England is his only viable option IMO.

What did I miss here? Did KP retire from England cricket?

I saw the captaincy stuff but as a player as well?

Anyway, I hate to say I told you so about this captaincy lark but...

Anyway, ECB a joke. They shouldnt be but they are. Its an easy enough thing to run. No excuses really.

I think both scenarios are pretty possible, i think its pretty clear that Pietersen hasn't acted very sensibly through this whole incident, he has been childish in his behaviour and the way he has handled this whole episode, Moores will move on to different things after this, but Pietersen has to be the part of the same English side, and lot of them might not have been too impressed with the way he has conducted himself.

So now its upto Pietersen really, what he wants to do, he surely would be English media' favourite punching bag for some time now, and it all now depends whether KP wants to play on for England now, because if he feels alienated after this incident he might decide to go back to South Africa and play for some province there and hope to play for the South Africans in the few years to come, because money won't be a problem for him, thanks to IPL and CL T20.
