Butcher faces wrist surgery

Injury-plagued batsman, Mark Butcher will miss 9-10 weeks of action, as he recovers from surgery. The Surrey and England left-hander is set to have a ligament in his left wrist reattached and thus will miss the start of the 2005 County season.

Butcher first sustained the injury in the gym, but it worsened on England’s tour of South Africa and saw him returning home early in the series.

The 32-year-old has experienced a variety of injury woes over the past year and starts his campaign as newly-appointed Surrey captain on the sidelines.
