Bangladesh thrash Kenya

Bangladesh opened their series with Kenya in resounding fashion, crushing their African counterparts 131 runs. Shahriar Nafees scored 91 to lead the Bangladesh charge to 301/7, after the hosts elected to bat first at Bogra.

His innings lasted 112 balls and counted 11 boundaries before he was the first of three run out victims at the hands of Kenya. Nafees was supported well by Aftab Ahmed (62) and Mashrafe Mortaza (44 not out). The latter played an amazing 16-ball innings, and smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes off the Kenyan bowlers.

Peter Ongondo was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets, but surrendered an expensive 73 runs from the 10 overs he bowled.

In response Kenya failed to launch. Kennedy Otieno (6), Steve Tikolo (8), and David Obuya (14) were dismissed early by Syed Rasel, and the Kenyan score looked decidedly wobbly at 38/3. When debutant Shadahadat Hossain followed up soon after with Hitesh Modi’s wicket for just 1, Bangladesh strengthened their hold.

Tony Suji (33) and Tanmay Mishra (43) did their best to restore some pride, but Bangladesh continued to take wickets, and five of the seven bowlers used were rewarded with at least one scalp.

Bangladesh now leads the 4-match series 1-0.

Kenya 170
