Akhtar to see Aussie specialist

Pakistani pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar will consult a specialist in Australia regarding his diagnosis of a degenerative disease in his left knee. Akhtar missed Pakistan’s recent One Day International series against India, which they lost 4-1, and has been ruled out of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

He will see Dr. David Young as to whether he should undergo surgery to correct the problem. Akhtar was diagnosed by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) medical panel, though he has complained of a problematic right knee as well.

Little is known as to the extent of the injury at this stage, but Akhtar hopes to be fit in time for Pakistan’s tour of England in July.
