Zimbabwe Suspend Own Test Status

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board have announced that they have chosen to suspend themselves from all test cricket until early next year.

The interim board’s decision was made public on Wednesday, and due to the announcement Zimbabwe will not be touring the West Indies in April/May for a two Test series. Zimbabwe Cricket are however keen to tour the Caribbean for the five scheduled one-day internationals.

The decision comes after a meeting with the International Cricket Council last week where this matter was likely to have been discussed, so it is very likely their own suspension has the ICC’s blessing.

The following was released by the board in a statement, which shows the direction they are wanting to take.

“ZC is now putting in place a programme to galvanise the development of the Zimbabwe squads. It will work with other Test nations and the ICC itself to realise this objective.”
