World Cup ticket sales dwindle

World Cup organisers are facing major problems with tickets sales for the World Cup drying up, with many still yet to be purchased, the BBC reported.

The drop in the sales growth has been attributed to the introduction of the Caricom visa system that was designed to help ease travel for tourists between the various hosting countries during the tournaments.

However the hassle and cost associated with obtaining the visa has seen the cancellation of purchased tickets as well as a reduction in the number booked.

“Ticket sales are not going as robust as people had hoped. We are starting to feel the pressure of the Caribbean market,” said George Goodwin, chief executive of the Antigua and Barbuda organising committee.

“This event has faced so many challenges that at this stage everything is full steam ahead. The little hiccups are simply rolled out.”

Josef Forstmayr, managing director of Round Hill Hotel & Villa Resort in Jamaica disagreed however.

“This is the worst public relations nightmare the Caribbean has ever created for itself,” he said.
