Whatmore quits as Bangladesh coach

Dav Whatmore has quit as Bangladesh coach but has agreed to stay on as coach for next month’s home series against India.

Bangladesh media manager Rabeed Imam said that “Dav Whatmore has conveyed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he will leave the post but will continue to work during the home series against India.”

A Bangladesh Cricket Board statement read “Dav Whatmore has cited personal reasons for his decision for not renewing the contract but has agreed to extend his contract by one month in order to help the team to prepare for the India series.”

It is understood that Whatmore upset Bangladesh officials by publicly stating that he was interested in taking on the Indian coaching role following Greg Chappell’s resignation.

Whatmore has coached Bangladesh since 2003, and lead Bangladesh to seventh place in the 2007 World Cup after defeating India in the Group Stages and South Africa in the Super Eight.
