Weather dominates in Colombo

The first day of the First Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was abandoned without play at the SSC in Colombo following heavy rain.

The overnight downpour had left the ground drenched and even though the rain stopped at around 1pm, parts of the outfield remained submerged, leaving umpires Steve Davis and Rudi Koertzen with little option but to call play off for the day.

The second day will begin half an hour early tomorrow, with the hosts missing Marvan Atapattu and Chaminda Vaas, and the tourists Mohammad Yousuf.
