Vaughan returns as captain

Michael Vaughan has been named captain of the England side for the upcoming Twenty20 international against Australia and the Commonwealth Bank Series that follows.

Vaughan who has been out of English colours since for over a year now due to a knee injury takes over the captaincy from Andrew Flintoff.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney told the ECB website that “It will be a fantastic boost for everyone to have Michael Vaughan back as captain for the one-day series.”

“It is to Andrew Flintoff’s credit he was prepared to take on the responsibility of leading the test side in Australia in Michael’s absence.”

“But Michael is the England captain and he will now begin the task of preparing the team for the challenges that lie ahead this winter.”

England play the Twenty20 international at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 9th January, which is followed by the Commonwealth Bank Series starting on 13th January.
