Two Kiwis called up for Canada

Canada have named their 15-man squad for the World Cup with two New Zealand based players in Ian Billcliff and Geoff Barnett being called up.

All-rounders Don Maxwell and Sandeep Jyoti are the unlucky players to miss out from Canada’s recent World Cricket League squad.

Coach Andy Pick said he felt “deeply sorry for Maxwell” but believed it was a fairly well balanced squad and it was a good reflection on the strength of Canadian cricket that someone with Maxwell’s ability couldn’t make it into the squad.

Pick said their aim for the World Cup is for at least one win and if they manage to get everything right on the day, he doesn’t see why they couldn’t beat England or New Zealand.

John Davison retains the captaincy for the World Cup.

Canada play their first match against Kenya on 14th March.

Canada Squad
John Davison (captain), Qaiser Ali, Ashish Bagai, Geoff Barnett, Umar Bhatti, Ian Billcliff, Desmond Chumney, George Codrington, Austin Codrington, Anderson Cummins, Sunil Dhaniram, Ashif Mulla, Henry Osinde, Abdool Samad, Kevin Sandher.
