Trescothick may fly home

Stand-in England captain Marcus Trescothick may fly home from Pakistan after his father-in-law was seriously injured after falling off a ladder. He will decide whether or not to go home in the next 48 hours.

Trescothick has been by far England’s best batsman on the tour , as shown by his 193 in the First Test. Should he decide to fly home and if Michael Vaughan misses with his knee injury it will be a huge blow to England, who would give Alistair Cook a debut, and hand the captaincy to someone else, probably either Andrew Flintoff or Ashley Giles.

But Michael Vaughan feels he is likely to play at Faisalabad, after making good progress in the last few days. If Vaughan does have to miss the second test, him returning for the third and final test would be a must for England, who will be without Andrew Strauss in that game, who will fly home for the birth of his first child.
