Tigers roar once again

Bangladesh cruised to an easy nine-wicket victory at Khulna in the second ODI of their four-game series against Kenya after Syed Rasel and Mashrafe Mortaza blew away the Africans’ top order.

The Tigers’ two left arm spinners, Abdur Razzak and Mohammad Rafique, then added three wickets between them to stifle David Obuya and Hiteshi Modi’s thirties, before Mortaza smartly run out the impressive teenager Tanmay Mishra – top scorer with 33 – and the fast men returned to account for the tail.

Bangladesh cantered to their 162-run target in less than half of their allotted overs, with Shahriar Nafees the only man to fall. Javed Omar and Aftab Ahmed both struck untroubled half-centuries – Aftab’s unbeaten 59 coming from just 31 balls and including nine fours and two sixes – as the home side raced home without further loss.

Kenya must now win the two remaining games of the series to qualify for the preliminary stages of this year’s ICC Champions Trophy – something that, on current form, seems far beyond them. The remaining two ODIs take place on Thursday and Saturday in Fatullah, and the likely outcome is a 4-0 whitewash to the ever-improving Tigers.
