Three-way series under threat

The 27-year tradition of the three-way series in Australia is under threat with Cricket Australia looking at changes to the format.

Cricket Australia told media earlier this week that it would not rule out changes to the one-day format and that there were many complaints that the series is too drawn-out and drops in popularity when Australia is not in the final.

Australia, New Zealand and England contest the series this summer and Cricket Australia are already locked into a tri-series for the 2007-08 season so the earliest that changes could be made would be for 2008-09.

It is understood that Cricket Australia are favouring scheduling seperate one-day series against touring sides that could be played either side of a a test series.
