Tharanga and Vandort Seal SL Win

Upul Tharanga and Michael Vandort saw Sri Lanka ease themselves to a comfortable ten-wicket win over Bangladesh in Bogra. The pair added 43 today, taking their overnight stand of 77 to an unbeaten opening partnership of 120. Despite heavy rain delaying the resumption of play, the tourists required just eight overs to wrap up their 2-0 series victory.

Tharanga, who took his match tally to 236 runs, finished with 71, including a huge six off spinner Enamul Haque jnr, and looks set to cement his position when the regular internationals return. While the selection of Vandort has been criticised by some elements of the Asian media, he accounted for a first-innings duck to conclude his innings on 40. Tharanga was adjudged man-of-the-match, with Muttiah Muralitharan picking up the series gong.

While Bangladesh squandered several useful positions in the two-match series, they appear to be ever-improving, and have unearthed a valuable new fast bowler in Shahadat Hossain. Sri Lanka, combining a mixture of experience and fresh talent, have given crucial opportunities for future stars to prove their worth in the international arena, and Muralitharan has captured both is 1000th international wicket and 600th Test wicket.
