Scotland extend winning streak

Scotland have held on for an exciting seven run win over Canada, in yesterday’s ICC World Cricket League one-day match in Kenya.

The match started after a slight delay due a wet outfield with Canada winning the toss and electing to field. Scot opener Fraser Watts put on a stylish 70 with plenty of support from Gavin Hamilton (64) and Dougie Brown, who blitzed a magnificent 50 from 27 balls to take Scotland’s total to 276.

Canada’s bowlers did their best to help Scotland’s total, contributing 32 extras to the cause. Umar Bhatti, Canada’s 23 year old left arm seamer was the standout for his side with figures of 1-32 from 10 overs.

Canada’s reply got off to a shaky start when star batsman John Davison got out cheaply to John Blain. However a superbly crafted century from Ashish Bagai and a brisk 48 off 46 balls from Ashif Mulla saw the Canadaians come agonisingly close to their target, with a gettable 12 runs needed off the last over to claim victory.

It was not to be however, as Dougie Brown bowled a calm and collected final over, conceding only four runs to take his side to a thrilling seven run win.

Scottish skipper Craig White performed admirably with the ball, snaring three wickets for 46 runs, whilst Paul Hoffmann also did well to take two wickets for 56.

Hoffman was later fined half his match fee, when he ran across the pitch and shouldered Canadian batsman Abdool Samad to the ground. The action was deemed to be a level two breach of the ICC code of conduct by the match referee.

Scotland 276
Fraser Watts 70, Gavin Hamilton 64, Dougie Brown 50
Umar Bhatti 1-32, John Davison 1-45

Canada 269
