Prior out of Twenty20 World Cup

England wicket-keeper Matt Prior is out of the Twenty20 World Cup after breaking his right thumb during a practice session in the nets on Monday.

England are expected to call for a replacement with Phil Mustard, Paul Nixon, Tim Ambrose and Chris Read being the front runners for a call-up.

David Graveney told Test Match Special that “It was a pretty innocuous situation and it’s very sad for Matt. We’ve filed the medical reprots that you have to do if you suffer an injury and now we have the logistical exercise of getting someone here, if we go down that route, which it is more than likely that we will.”

Graveney went onto say “The one fortunate thing is that our game against India on Wednesday is a night game. It’s possible to get them here for Wednesday morning but it becomes a big ask for someone to get off a plane and play.”
